Posted 2005:  Member of the original Phone Co. (1988):  Rich, Jeff, Gary, Tommy (did I miss someone?).  Performed under the direction of Mr. Correll.  I’m currently a Registered Nurse and working on my Masters in Healthcare Administration.  A word of advice – go to college and get your Masters while you’re still young!!!!!  For crying out loud – just listen to your elders.

DRUM LINE

I was part of the ’87 & ’88 Drumline, I graduated from Kellam in 1989.  Arnold Bowie says it all in his memories of the 1987 season.  I was Arnold’s roommate on the majority of those trips and our Drumline was unstoppable.  We played Cricket as our Drum Break written by Bill Pendergrass and it ROCKED!!!!  We went nearly undefeated losing our final competition at Cary NC, however, we found out on the bus trip home that our score had been altered and lowered by one of the judges.  I will always consider that year as an undefeated season and consider those I played with as the best to pick up the instrument.  I currently live in Arizona, am married with two beautiful children and work as a Trainer for a Property Management company.  I would love to see more people post their info to this site so that we could all get caught up.

DRUM LINE

Kellam Marching Knights - WOW! What a story?  I'm Davey M. James and I marched from 1986-1989 under the great instruction of David O. Correll (aka: "Doc").  He was the best!  We all remember his great way of delivering the best shows.  No matter what the band booster parents thought -  We loved "DOC!"  I started on baritone then moved to the drum line.  I remember the year we performed at a competition and the watering sprinkler system came on and I was standing directly on the head of a sprinkler - I knew I better not move!  We had some of the best times, remember the drum line bus?  And yes, CRICKET rocked!!!  Bill Pendergrass against Bill Pease - battle of the drum lines.  My era included some of the best people, Ramsey Franklin, Marius Payton, Alex Payton, Jeff Warren, my sister (Angie James - captain of color guard), shouts out to Ms. Barbara, Ivan on baritone, Brian Cook, Kevin Rowe, Heather Bacho, Heather Collins, Michelle Burkett, and many more.  I remember just marching to the practice field was such a thrill.  Of course, we couldn't practice on the football field even though we were better than the football team.  Oh yes, the trips to Cary, NC and JMU were just great!  Cary band day was HUGE.  Well life has moved on, I'm in the corporate world and work for Darden Restaurants, Inc.  I live in the Atlanta, GA area since 1996.  I'm married to Melissa Hawthorne - Kellam Alumni also and she is a kindergarten teacher.  We have (3) wonderful kids together and have been married for 13 years.  I also head up a ministry men's group called Covenant Keepers Laymen's Ministry.  We have over 125 men as members throughout Georgia, Louisana, & Virginia.  I really miss the good 'ole days, but the best is yet to come.  I found this site today 12-25-2007 - So to all: Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!  God Bless You All & Your Families
