Melinda Cartwright (now Davis) |
1985 | melinda.davis1@cox.net | Piccolo and Flute |
I played piccolo and flute during the 82/83 and 83/84 seasons. I graduated in 85 but didn’t play my senior year due to scheduling conflicts. I was around the band from the 78/79 season through the 85/86 season due to and older and younger brother. I do miss the camaraderie of the group activity. I am still in the area. I haven’t successfully raised a band member, but I am working on a guard member for Western Branch. If I can get her to consider riffles outside of ROTC we should be set. We have been attending the Western Branch High School football games, but I have to tell you, the show seems boring. I’m not sure if its just early in the season or a different mentality, but they don’t do a lot to entertain/encourage the fans or the team. I have to say, my favorite program was the 80/81 show with the Dallas theme song and the William Tell overture. The horse in the backfield always got a big applause. It was AWESOME. I enjoyed the shows I marched in, but that show always stuck in mind. |

Paul Farrell |
1985 (in NC) | pgf4374@cfl.rr.com | Bass Drum and Cymbals in Marching Band and String Bass in Concert Band | I played cymbals in '83 and bass drum in '84. After being on the best Drumline anywhere, I moved to New Bern, NC, played tuba in the marching band where the band lined up in a straight line on the far sideline, marched to mid-field, played from sheet music (different tunes each week), then marched off...pretty boring after KMK! I am in the Coast Guard stationed here in Tidewater and have been most of my 20 yr career. |

Angela Peelen |
1985 | ajpeelen1@hotmail.com | Color Guard |
Hello! My name is Angela Peelen, and I am the current president
of the King's Fork High School Band Boosters. I am also an alumni of
KMK, having marched with the guard in 1984 and 1985, under Mr.
Corell. My daughter is playing alto sax with the Mighty Marching
Bulldogs, as well as clarinet and oboe for concert band (and looking
forward to adding English horn and percussion in the spring). She's
also yearning to give winter guard a try, as soon as we can get that
up and running. Yes, I have reared the perfect "band geek" and I
couldn't be more proud of her! My daughter and I always enjoy running into Kellam at competitions and are looking forward to seeing KMK perform at the Sportsplex, this weekend. The band is a little smaller than it was when I was marching (we were 4A, I believe, and awesome)...but big or small, I still get a chill. It's rough on me this year, though, since KMK and KFHSMMB are in the same class! The kids look at me like I've turned purple and grown horns, when I cheer for Kellam...especially when I'm sitting with them! But what can I say, I was and always will be a Kellam Marching Knight. |

Lori Seel (Beam) |
1985 | tikkimama63@yahoo.com | Clarinet (Sophomore Year), and Marimba in Pit (Junior & Senior Years) |
I marched clarinet during my sophomore year, and due to a knee injury played in the pit during my junior and senior years. I am currently married to a band director and live in South Bend, Indiana. My oldest daughter plays flute in the band, and my second and third daughters march color guard. We also have an 11 year old son who plays the drums. We are addicted to drum corps and go to finals almost every year. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me from band and would like to catch up on old times. I really miss my days in the Kellam Marching Knights, and now have to live vicariously through my children. Hope to hear from someone soon! You can reach me at tikkimama63@yahoo.com. |
